Two Space Studio scholarship students spent the week at Onwave.

Last week, Onwave hosted two students from Space Studio West London as part of the Space Studio Scholarship program.

Space Studio in West London has nine students studying A’Level Computer Science with close links to the industry. Onwave is proud to work closely with Space Studio to give their students an opportunity to undertake work experience and learn more about what we do.

The two young men, Leo and Rostislav, have been working across three departments and discovering what it’s like to work at Onwave. They have spent time with network engineering, GIS engineering, and SaaS.

They were tasked with getting to grips with working with data that involves Docker and Azure Data Studio, platforms they had never used before. Docker is an open-source platform which they used to run a database server that could be viewed and edited using Azure software. By the end of the week, they had to present the solution they came up with as a team and, from the feedback here at Onwave, they did pretty well!

Rostislav and Leo have also enjoyed spending time in Kent and the team has taken them out bowling along with other local social activities in the evening.

“It’s great to see what it’s like to work at a tech company. I have enjoyed meeting the Onwave team, and everyone has been friendly and helpful. Next year, I am back at Space Studio to complete my Advanced Maths and Computer Science so that I have the qualifications for an Apprenticeship – Leo

“I have enjoyed my time at Onwave. The people are great, and I have learned a lot. I am hoping to go to Birmingham University in September to study General Computer Science, which includes a year in the industry, so it would be great to return to Onwave for this.” – Rostislav

As a business it is important for us to support initiatives like this, we learn a lot from the perspectives and ideas that younger people have, and it has been a pleasure to have Rostislav and Leo in the office.
